Monte Scharbow is a recently trained Mindful Self-Compassion teacher. He is a former Civil Engineer, natural medicine practitioner, health educator and Commonwealth government public servant. Monte is an accredited Dru Yoga and Meditation teacher and has been teaching in Canberra for over 10 years. With a background in science, he is a proponent of evidence based health practices.
Monte has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University in the USA and worked as a water and wastewater Civil Engineering consultant for 18 years.
After migrating to Australia in 1995, he acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Naturopathy from Southern Cross University in Lismore NSW. He practised Naturopathy for several years in private practice and in Pharmacies in Canberra. After acquiring a Certificate IV Certificate in Training and Assessment, he worked as a health educator for the Australian Arthritis Foundation and on a team managing training for aged care assessment teams for the Australian Department of Health.
Monte is an accredited yoga teacher with a Certificate in Dru Yoga and advanced training in Dru meditation. He has been teaching in Canberra for over 10 years.
His lifelong pursuits of fitness, more happiness and meaning to life, and a desire to help others to be happier, healthier and have a better quality of life have driven him on this quest that eventually led him to Mindful Self Compassion. His background in science and health, and interest in brain neuroscience, consciousness, psychology, and wellness inspired Monte to learn about mindfulness for improving mental and psychological well-being.
When he discovered Mindful Self Compassion and participated in the eight-week program presented by Marie Bloomfield, it was evident to him that this is a well-developed and effective program that could be of great benefit for much of the population.
